I have created an online mind map of my current understanding of my research so far. The tool (bubbl.us) provides an easy to use 'walk-through' experience, but I found it to be time consuming and very "fiddly." However, I would use it again. I can't think how many times I have made a mind map with just a pencil and paper and wanted to redesign particular parts to make room for more information.
This tool is very flexible and allows learners to build on their prior knowledge through making connections with new information. They cater for visual learners by providing visual links between each concept.
I agree Stacey that this seemed to take so long - but the more we use it, the quicker we will be. I love that by doing it online, rather than on paper or the whiteboard, that we would be able to upload this to student drives, blogs etc. for the students to access at a later date.
ReplyDeleteIt is a great visual tool to get students thinking about the interrelationships that occur amongst topics.

I agree also that bubbl.us is quite difficult to manipulate. The tool text2mindmap I feel in comparison is much simpler to use. No matter what concept map you use (bubbl.us or text2), these are great visual tools to enhance each students learning.
ReplyDeleteTime for students to practise and discover for themselves their preferred concept map is a must.
